President William Ruto has promised a hefty cash bonus to Harambee Stars if they beat Zambia in their final group match of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) on Sunday, August 17.

Ruto announced that each player and member of the technical bench will receive Sh2.5 million should they secure the win. Speaking after visiting the team following their victory over Morocco, he expressed confidence in their ability to deliver.

“Sunday, I want us to have a new deal. God willing, we are winning. If we win, each person will get Sh2.5 million, including the technical bench,” he said.

The president also pledged further rewards if the team progresses from the quarterfinals, promising Sh1 million and a house under the affordable housing programme for every player and technical team member. “For the quarters, if we win, on top of the Sh1 million, I will add the affordable housing you have asked for,” he told the players.

The incentive comes as Harambee Stars prepare for a crucial clash that will close their Group A campaign. The match follows their hard-fought 1-0 win over two-time champions Morocco at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, on Sunday.

The victory, which sealed Kenya’s spot in the quarterfinals on their CHAN debut, was secured by Ryan Ogam’s decisive 42nd-minute strike. The team displayed grit and discipline, holding onto the lead despite playing with ten men after Chrispine Erambo was sent off in first-half stoppage time following a VAR review.

Goalkeeper Bryne Omondi made several key saves to keep Morocco at bay, helping Kenya maintain their unbeaten run in the tournament, which also includes a 1–0 win over DR Congo and a 1–1 draw with Angola.

Harambee Stars now lead Group A with seven points from three games and will aim to carry their momentum into the clash against Zambia in front of home fans.
